Geoton Pty Ltd was founded in mid-2008, initially providing locally-based consulting services to Northern and North-Western Tasmania.

Geoton has developed a strong reputation for delivering high quality work to it's clients. Many of our clients have had long and established relationships with our staff, with some of the staff's local knowledge and experience in Tasmania dating back to the early 1970's.




Tony J Barriera
Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Mr. Barriera has over 25 years of engineering experience covering a broad range of geotechnical engineering projects.

Prior to forming Geoton, Mr Barriera was employed as a geotechnical engineer with a number of consulting engineering practices located in Australia and South East Asia.

Mr Barriera is a Director of Geoton Pty Ltd and has responsibility for the management and running of the Geoton group.

Project Engineer for the assessment, investigation, design and remedial works for a farm dam failures in Glengarry, Nile and Ross, Tasmania.

Surveillance assessment, hazard assessment, investigation, design and work as executed for farm dams projects at numerous sites in Tasmania.

Investigation of slope stability problems, plus design of remedial measures, for numerous slopes and proposed developments in Tasmania, Hong Kong and the South Coast of New South Wales.

Site Resident Engineer for the installation of water mains across Ma Wan Channel using Horizontal Directional Drilling.

Carried out infrastructure design including surface water runoff analyses and design of surface water management on five closed urban landfill sites, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Prepared geotechnical submissions and foundation analyses for aspects of the Urban Landfills and Shuen Wan Landfill.

Supervised SI work on the Tuen Mun Road widening project.

Coordinated a team of engineers and draftspersons to prepare conceptual design and feasibility study for a new landfill in a valley previously used for fish pond farming to the north east of the city of Guangzhou, China.

Provided supervision of geotechnical investigations on various NSW RTA road and highway projects.



Matthew M Street
Engineering Geologist


Mr. Street joined Geoton Pty Ltd in April 2008 and has over 15 years experience covering a broad range of geological and geotechnical engineering projects.

Prior to joining Geoton, Mr Street was employed as a geologist and materials laboratory manager with mining, construction material suppliers and a consulting engineering practice.

Mr Street is an Engineering Geologist with Geoton Pty Ltd and has responsibility for the managing, conducting, analysing and reporting of geotechnical investigations and the running of the soils laboratory.

Sebastian C Gore
Geotechnical Engineer

Mr Gore joined Geoton Pty Ltd in November 2013 shortly after graduating from the University of Tasmania and has engineering experience covering a wide of geotechnical engineering projects.

Mr Gore is a Geotechnical Engineer with Geoton Pty Ltd and has responsibility for carrying out geotechnical investigations, analysing, soil testing and reporting.

Jonathan P Findlay
Geotechnical Engineer

Mr Findlay joined Geoton Pty Ltd in October 2014 shortly after graduating from the University of Tasmania. Mr Findlay has geotechnical engineering experience both in the mining sector and in geotechnical consulting.

Mr Findlay is a Geotechnical Engineer with Geoton Pty Ltd and has the responsibility for carrying out geotechnical investigations, analysing, soil testing and reporting.
